2012, 4th WORKSHOP : Concepts behind models
January 23rd-24th 2012
Nice (France), Salle du Belvedere – Grand Chateau de Valrose, Campus Valrose, University of Nice
The MODUS working group of the S4 ERG is focused on advances in urban modeling. Different modeling techniques have been developed over the time by MODUS members as well as by other colleagues actively participating in the S4 network. The renewed interest in the formal approaches to urban studies (see for example the latest development in the field of urban ontologies) motivates the organization of a two-day workshop focused on the concepts underlying urban models and their applications. Researchers are thus welcomed to present their advances in urban modeling, making a clear presentation of the concepts (urban elements, phenomena or processes) having been selected within their modeling approach. A particular attention will be also given to the spatial and temporal scales within which these concepts are employed. Communications should be limited to 20 minutes, in order to leave time to informal discussion among participants. A round table will address the most relevant issues in conceptual assumptions behind urban modeling, which will have emerged during the presentations. One of the goals of the roundtable will also be to attempt a synthesis of the different approaches presented within the workshop. A special session will be reserved to young researchers, as well as to colleagues outside the MODUS working group. All kind of urban modeling approaches will be welcomed.
The UMR ESPACE, actively working on urban modeling since its establishment in the 1990s, is happy to organize the MODUS workshop in Nice, the vibrant capital city of the French Riviera.
